Baylink Motorcycle Training December 2022

baylink logo

As some of you may be aware David Smith started Baylink Motorcycle Training Centre and has successfully operated the business for over 20 years training many motorcycle riders during this time.

Dave sold the business on 21 November 2022 and entered into his well-earned retirement so we wish him all the very best in his future adventures.

Whilst you will still see his smiling face at Baylink from time to time he is looking forward to travelling and enjoying our great country in his 4wd.

Baylink will be producing a monthly newsletter as a way of keeping in touch with our students both past and present.

We will be providing information on what’s happening in the business as well as passing on some bike and rider tips.

We would love to hear from students with any interesting rider information, tips, stories and great ride destinations.

Please feel free to pass this Newsletter on to anybody else you may think would be interested.

New owners

Baylink was purchased by husband and wife team Anthony and Stefani Wolfe. Some of you may already know Anthony as he has been working at Baylink as an instructor since November 2021.

Anthony brings over 43 years of motorcycling experience to Baylink with a background in both on and off-road riding.

He has worked for a number of different Motorcycle Training Providers around the state as an instructor and also brings an off-road coaching background to the business.

Anthony spent 15 years working for Victoria Police with 7 years riding police motorcycles.  He was lucky enough to be accepted into the Victoria Police Special Solo Unit where he spent 5 years working police motorcycles in both on and off-road environments before moving to the training unit where he conducted on and off-road police motorcycle courses.

He still rides on the road every day and gets to race tracks as often as he can to sharpen his skills.

While he no longer gets the opportunity to ride off road as often as he’d like he still loves the opportunity to head out in the bush or spend the day at a motocross track.

He enjoys nothing more than having the opportunity to help his students in their motorcycle riding journey and watching them improve their confidence and riding skills.

Stefani joins Baylink as our new Managing Director and holds a degree in Business and Marketing.  She brings many years of experience in the corporate world and will be looking after the financial and marketing side of the business helping us grow into the future.

Between the two of them they are very excited to build on what Dave started with Baylink so many years ago and would like to take the opportunity to welcome all past, present and future students into the Baylink Family.

Our Team

Baylink has the enviable position of having some of the most experienced instructors on our team.

All of the current instructors will be staying on with Baylink so you will still see the welcoming faces of Colin, Marty and Scott around the place.

Dave will also keep his hand in while he isn’t travelling around the country. These guys have all spent time riding police motorcycles and thoroughly enjoy passing on their experience and knowledge.

We are also looking forward to bringing some new instructors into our team as the business grows.  Again, these people will be highly experienced instructors who can help you on your riding journey.

We will take the opportunity to introduce them in the coming months.

Karen will continue to run our office. She has been working at Baylink for a number of years and is highly proficient in the day-to-day operations of the business.  You will still hear her friendly voice on the telephone and see her in the office.

What’s new at Baylink

We are excited to start offering some new courses at Baylink in the near future and don’t want our relationship with our students to end once you have obtained your licence.

We will be implementing an advanced skills course on our range, building on what you have learnt during your learner and licence training as well as implementing some more advanced skills which will greatly improve your riding.

We will also be offering a returning rider course designed to assist people who already hold a motorcycle licence but haven’t ridden in a while. Motorcycle riding is definitely a diminishing skill so we aim to get you back on the road safely and confidently.

We are very excited to introduce a specific women-only day course aimed at giving female riders a personalised, relaxed training experience.  This will be conducted by one of the industry’s most experienced female instructors.  Stefani and Karen are very keen to see this one progress.

Baylink remains a family-run business and we are very keen for our students to be a part of our Baylink family.  To help promote this we plan to hold a BBQ and Bikes afternoon approximately once a month where you can come and mix with like-minded people to talk all things motorcycles. We will have some of our instructors on hand also to answer any questions you may have.

We are looking at holding the first one in late January with the date to be confirmed in our January newsletter.

For any further information on our new courses keep an eye on the website. Alternatively don’t hesitate to give us a call on 5979 1600.

Check Ride

Don’t forget, once you have successfully completed your Learner Permit Course you must complete a Check Ride a minimum of 30 days prior to undertaking your Licence Assessment.

The Check Ride is designed to ensure you have built up enough experience on your motorcycle to ride safely and to undertake the Licence Assessment.

The Check Ride consists of 2 components. The first of these is a range component where we will run you back through the 4 main riding exercises of the Learner Permit Assessment (Change of path, Quick stop, tight left turn and slow ride).

Once this is completed we take you out on the road where you will have the opportunity to ride in front of an instructor who will give you feedback.

Your Learner Permit is valid for a maximum of 15 months so you only really have 14 months to do the Check Ride.

VicRoads will not extend your Learner Permit so if you let it expire or you don’t have 30 days between Check Ride and licence you will be required to undertake the Learner Permit course again.

Don’t let this happen, give us a call at Baylink on 5979 1600 and book it in.
